How Great a Salvation - Hebrews

When we were studying Hebrews 11 on Friday nights earlier this year, a few of the staff ladies and I decided to study the book of Hebrews for the semester. Chapter 2 looks at salvation and warns the Hebrew Christians to “pay close attention so they will not drift away.” They were given evidence as to why they should choose Christ and not return to the Law. In verse 3 the author of Hebrews uses a rhetorical question to make his readers think about how ridiculous it would be to turn to their old ways of the Law above Christ.  In this question, he refers to salvation as “great.” The study challenged us to think about all the ways our salvation truly is great! Here are a few that I came up with . . .

FREE - I don’t work for it. It’s a gift. – Ephesians 2:8-9

LASTING - I shall no longer perish, but now have everlasting life. – John 3:16

VICTORY -  I have victory over sin and death. – 1 Corinthians 15:55-57

CO-INHERITOR - I am now a partaker of divine nature. – 2 Peter 1:4

RICH - My inheritance is imperishable, undefiled, unfading. – 1 Peter 1:4-5

PERMANENT - No one can snatch me out of God’s hands. – John 10:28

GIVES FREEDOM - I am no longer a slave to sin. – Romans 6

LIFE - I am now a slave to righteousness and alive to Christ. – Romans 6

PEACE - I am at peace with God. – Romans 5:1

GUILT GONE - There is now no condemnation because of Christ. – Romans 8:1

FAMILY - I can call God “ Abba! Father!” – Galatians 4:6-7

INDESTRUCTIBLE - Nothing can separate me from God’s love. – Romans 8:35-39

MADE COMPLETE - God promised to complete His work in me. – Philippians 1:6

IDENTIFICATION FOUND - My citizenship is in heaven. – Philippians 3:20

KNOWN - Jesus is my mediator, my High Priest, who understands me. – Hebrews 10

CHOSEN - I am chosen, made a people for his own possession. – 1 Peter 2:9

BOUGHT BACK - My body is now a temple of the Holy Spirit. – 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

MADE NEW - I am a new creation. – 2 Corinthians 5:17

JOY - I can find joy in trials. – James 1:2

HOPE - I have a hope that does not disappoint. – Romans 5:5

This is by no means an exhaustive list. My hope is that this stirs your heart in thanksgiving to God and spurs you on to add to this list. Scripture is chock-full with verses on how our salvation is great! May we never grow weary of singing praises to God for sending His Son, Jesus Christ, to pay the price for our sin and enabling us to have a relationship with our great God.
